OBFUSCATION AFFECT (2017)
Obfuscation Affect occurs through repetition in form rather than content. Consistently repeating particular patterns of address aimed at attracting and diverting attention producing an onslaught of comments, statements, events and interjections that effectively blur into, each other, defying memory, creating the ground to run blindly, headlong into Ø
This work uses imagery redolent of white supremacy that has been clearly exhibited in a range of venues used by the campaign and presidency of donald trump. The right is adept at using distinctive symbolism that is meant to communicate moral and personal belief systems that becomes amplified and in some ways structured in American popular culture. In part, this is effective simply because it is done in plain sight, and out of disbelief it is tolerated or dismissed. This work connects thematically with other of my works such as Of,By,For.
