THE ARENA OF AFFECTED AFFECT 2016
The framing of political and social events by broadcasting organizations gains meaning with viewers mainly through the evocation of emotional resonance. The viewers and the broadcasters are involved in a symbiotic dance, a call and response, where the event is necessarily framed in a way that is anticipated by the viewers, who have already been prepared for the direct and subtle messaging in these forms of address. When properly organzied, the ‘shows’ are received approvingly and summarily replicated nightly. Alleigance to certain channels, and to specific presenters is the formal tool that the messaging function required by politics uses today.
The pretention that is the basis of the broadcaster's praxis aims to embody the emotional center of any issue's partisan bias, creating the desired effect among their viewing public, which is an affected affect.
We have seen time and again members of the public bizarrely proclaiming both allegiance to and ignorance of a political party or politician’s policies. It is a phenomena mainly created by the statistics being measured by the media’s algorithms, which in turn churn out further and further nuanced speech and body language. This system is viscious in its ability to manipulate the public.
